Cruising is making an incredible comeback after being sidelined for years because of the pandemic. Not only are cruises back to sailing at capacity, but there are also more and more new ships coming into operation. But with so many options for cruise lines and ships, it can be hard to know which is best suited to your travel style.
Luckily, the cruising experts over at Cruiseline.com have compiled a list of the most loved cruise ships and cruise lines. Using a full year’s worth of reviews from members who took a cruise during 2022, they were able to determine the cruises that consistently come out on top. The cruises at the top of the resulting list have been deemed The 2023 Member Choice Award winners.
Cruiseline.com’s General Manager, Jamie Cash, explained how “The 2023 Member Choice Awards are very special to Cruiseline.com as they represent cruise lines back sailing at full capacity. The reviews submitted over the past year provide an in-depth view at how lines and ships stack up against each other now that sailing has resumed and all guests are welcome back onboard.”
The awards are broken into four categories, with each category being broken down into specific topics, a unique attribute that makes this list particularly handy. Without further ado, here are the winners of Cruiseline.com’s 2023 Member Choice Awards.
The top-performing cruise lines have been broken into four subcategories –mainstream cruise line, premium cruise line, luxury cruise line, and river cruise line.
Notably, the rankings for the top performers in each subcategory are all relatively close, with one exception – river cruises. This information suggests that booking one of the top cruise lines (mainstream, premium, or luxury) is likely a great choice. However, when booking a river cruise, travelers should take more time to research what others are saying about each company.

To determine the cruise lines that offer the best onboard experiences, Cruiseline.com looked at reviews for food and dining, activities and entertainment, service and staff, and staterooms. This category is dominated by long-time favorites Celebrity Cruises and Royal Caribbean.

The Best Overall Cruise Ships category was broken down into Best Overall and Best New Cruise Ships. It is worth noting that the ranking score for the #1 Best New Cruise Ship is lower than even the 10th Best Overall Cruise Ship. That could indicate that newer ships likely have more kinks to work out when compared to more seasoned ships.
