Explora Journeys

You Want the Feel of a Land-Based Resort Combined With the Thrill of an Ocean Journey

Yes, you’re seeking a luxurious escape that feels more like a high-end resort than a traditional cruise, and Explora Journeys was designed just for you. Launched in 2023 with the 922-guest Explora I, this cruise line redefines the ocean experience, offering a ship that feels like a floating Italian luxury hotel. From its curated design to its non-traditional cruise lingo—where “crew members” are called “hosts”—Explora Journeys offers an innovative approach to luxury at sea. Yes, whether you’re lounging on the spacious outer pool decks or dining at one of the world-class restaurants, you might forget you’re on a ship at all and instead feel like you’re in a chic resort in Milan or New York.

Owned by: MSC Group, parent company of MSC Cruises.

Ships: Explora currently has two ships, Explora I and the soon-to-launch Explora II (summer 2024). Both ships are identical, featuring 461 suites, four pools (including one indoors), and a luxurious spa and fitness center, ensuring every guest has the space and comfort they deserve.

Ambiance: The ambiance onboard Explora ships is modern chic meets understated elegance. Yes, you’ll be surrounded by tonal décor—think shades of gray, black, brown, and ivory—and polished stone that exudes sophistication. From the boutique hotel-style lobby to the curated luxury shops, every space has been thoughtfully designed. The ship offers a wide range of activities, from educational onboard lectures to fitness classes in the 2,900-square-foot Technogym-equipped fitness center, to indulgent moments in the 7,535-square-foot Ocean Wellness Spa, where you have complimentary access to the thermal area.

Dining & Entertainment: When it comes to dining, Explora Journeys goes above and beyond. Yes, you can dine at Anthology, a specialty restaurant featuring menus by rotating Michelin-starred chefs, or choose from five complimentary restaurants, including the modern French-inspired Fil Rouge, European steakhouse Marble & Co. Grill, Pan-Asian Sakura, Mediterranean-inspired Med Yacht Club, and the diverse Emporium Marketplace with 18 cooking stations. While dining offers variety and luxury, entertainment is more low-key, featuring “Evening Experiences” in the Journeys Lounge with live music and performances by “Resident Artistes” on the ship’s three Steinway Spirio pianos.

Accommodations: Accommodations are spacious and elegantly designed, ranging from 377-square-foot Ocean Terrace Suites to the grand 3,014-square-foot Owner’s Residence. Yes, you’ll enjoy luxurious touches like heated bathroom floors and large walk-in showers, although it’s worth noting that the bathrooms in most suite categories are similarly configured, with more exclusive perks reserved for the top three categories: Serenity Residences, Cocoon Residences, and the Owner’s Residence.

Fares & Inclusions: Fares start at $3,100 per person for a 6-night Caribbean voyage and go up to around $15,000 per person for longer Grand Journeys lasting 28 to 30 nights. Yes, your fare includes all dining (with the exception of Anthology), beverages, gratuities, and Wi-Fi, allowing you to relax and enjoy the journey without any extra costs.

Best for: Travelers who prefer a leisurely pace with more sea days, embracing the concept of an “ocean state of mind” while indulging in luxury on the high seas.
