Disney Treasure Reaches Significant Milestone with Keel Laying Ceremony in Papenburg, Germany

On March 30, 2023, Disney Cruise Line reached a significant milestone in the construction their next Triton-class cruise ship with the motif of adventure, the Disney Treasure, with the keel laying ceremony at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. During the ceremony, a time-honored maritime tradition, a newly minted coin was placed under the keel of the ship for good fortune. 

On Thursday, Meyer Werft and Disney Cruise Line celebrated the start of hull s.718 assembly for the Disney Treasure by placing the first component in the more than 500-meters-long covered building dock. The so-called block for the ship’s bow weighs 719 tons, is 30,9 metres breadth and 23,3 metres long. The height is 12,6 metres.

Philip Gennotte, portfolio project management executive, Walt Disney Imagineering Germany, took part in the keel laying ceremony for the Disney Treasure at Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany. You may recognize Philip from his parts in the Making the Disney Wish documentary which is now streaming on Disney+.

The commemorative coin used in the ceremony featured an etching of Captain Minnie Mouse donning a new look that embodies ship’s adventure motif – Voyager Minnie.

“The Disney Treasure will once again be a ship that will be constucted with MEYER quality and once again meet Disney’s high standards for entertainment and equipment. With the keel laying, we have now reached an important milestone in this respect,” says Jan Meyer, Managing Director of MEYER WERFT.

The Disney Treasure is scheduled for delivery in 2024. Following the Disney Wish, which set sail in July, it’s the second of three new ships planned through 2025. The “Wish-class” [Triton-class] ships are powered by liquefied natural gas and feature 1,254 guest staterooms.
