Book Your Next Amazing Cruise with Travel Leader, Jeffrey Cleary

Windstar Cruises has recently announced the withdrawal of its ship, Star Legend, from Middle East voyages scheduled for November 2023. The decision is attributed to the current regional conditions and evolving circumstances.

While the Middle East boasts a rich history and culture, attracting tourists worldwide, it has recently grappled with political instability and conflicts. This has posed heightened challenges and risks for cruise ships in the region.

Windstar, recognised for its small vessels and immersive travel experiences, aims to immerse guests in local cultures and traditions. However, the current Middle East environment presents limitations for Windstar Cruises in delivering the expected level of guest experience.

Christopher Prelog, Windstar’s president, said, “The ship was originally scheduled to sail in the Middle East. We’ve postponed our launch in that region to begin in November 2024.”

“With a ship in the Mediterranean, we saw an opportunity to offer guests a legendary winter season in Europe.”

Star Legend will operate 16 cruises between Barcelona and Rome, visiting Pisa (Livorno), Florence, and Marseille, with overnights in Monte Carlo, Rome and Barcelona.

Star Legend will appear in Cannes in early December, aligning with the International Luxury Travel Market conference. Critical members of Windstar’s leadership team, such as Prelog, Vice President of Sales Dianna Rom, and Chief Commercial Officer Janet Bava, will be available to present the ship’s transformation, accomplished as part of the £250 Million Star Plus Initiative. Furthermore, conference attendees will have the chance to embark on a two-night cruise to Rome after the event.
